Restraint, is not a bad thing. Not by a long shot. In fact, discipline of any kind and in any form more often than not is based on restraint.
However, restraint, in the context of this post for me has not necessarily been a good thing either. I will explain. 🙂
Over the years, structure, security, predictability have been a requirement for any venture, I had and still have limits and lines across which I never intend to cross. Again, that is not necessarily a bad thing especially when those lines are drawn from principles and my belief system. However, when those lines are drawn from fear of the unknown, it becomes a problem.
It takes a lot of guts to step from the known to the unknown.
From a paid job with steady flow of income to become an entrepreneur not sure where the next cheque is coming from.
From the structure of living single to starting a family.
From the familiar to the unfamiliar.
Those guts are needed. Not just at one time in life but everyday. We are constantly faced with opportunities, challenges to leave our comfort zones and do something extraordinary. To cast off restraint and embrace spontaneity.
I smiled to myself as a wrote the last line, spontaneity is a strange concept to me but it is never to late to start.
